ARTIST STATEMENT I am interested in expressing the abstract qualities of land, sky, and water and how light translates these forms into the language of color. I explore color relationships in a variety of media including acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolor and encaustic. Each medium provides challenges that enable me to express the essence of natural forms with colors that flow, creating edges and passages, transparent and opaque shapes that transport the viewer to a new reality. My work is influenced by the flow of pigment as it creates form. That flow could be created by particles of pure pigment on paper or canvas. I love the idea of creating invented forms that suggest the drama of light and atmosphere in a constant flux. I have a strong interest in capturing the amazing quality of light on the Cape and I’m drawn to the ponds, marshes, and coastal areas as sources of inspiration. |
